The Snyder Reconstruction Project has been a needed improvement to the area for many years.  The Snyder Corridor south of Pershing Blvd. has experienced multiple asphalt overlays, resulting in an inadequate crown and uncomfortable drivability.  This area also lacks an adequate storm sewer system which has caused local flooding to nearby residents.  Certain areas of the project have seen utility improvements recently, including new sanitary sewer main from 28th St. south.  The existing sanitary will be lined with this project and manholes will either be rehabilitated or replaced.  The water main and services will be replaced entirely up the curb stops.  The storm sewer system could be considered the driving force behind the project and will greatly improve the drainage for the West Central area of Cheyenne.  Project tasks vary from channel construction in wetland areas to new and rehabilitated utilities to roadway construction.

This project required vast coordination efforts which began more than two years ago with the BNSF Rail Road.  Track in the intersection of 23rd and Snyder, which is a connection spur between BNSF and Union Pacific, was removed in September of 2013 to allow for 78in. and 72in.  storm pipe culvert installation.  One major task with the storm system nearing completion is the installation of 8ft. box culvert, which ranges in depth up to 28ft..  The total length of box culvert is near 1,500ft. and is located in 23rd St.

The closure of Snyder from 23rd to 24th is gearing up to begin the first week of March and work will continue north to Randall Ave throughout the summer and fall.  As work begins on Snyder Ave, one of the critical items will be to keep resident’s water and sanitary services on while new water and sewer mains are installed.  Planning is currently underway to continue services to these BOPU customers.  Once the project is complete, users of Snyder Ave can expect to enjoy a newly constructed road, with less drainage issues.

Scheduling is also being developed to work with Cheyenne Frontier Days.  During this week, Snyder Ave. becomes a major route for visitors and a main connector from the downtown area to Frontier Park.  This week of activities in July will control what tasks can be accomplished.  However, users can look forward to having Snyder Ave open during CFD events.
